What are the best events and communities for women over 40?

We women over 40 have a certain je ne sais quoi, am I right?

Having gone through a fair amount of life, we have our unique set of concerns — family, work, health, and beyond — and face challenges only other midlifers can understand. (I don’t know about you, but I keep discovering a new ache in a part of my body I didn’t know could ache!)

But of course being a woman in midlife is about so much more than achy body parts. We also have a no-BS sensibility that comes from decades of ups and downs that’s only relatable to other women who have traversed and triumphed as much as we have.

So if you’re looking for events especially tailored for women over 40, I’ve got you. Check out these communities and find one that’s right for you.

Next Tribe for living boldly over 45

Do you believe midlife is about powering up and not powering down?

Check out Next Tribe for in-person and virtual empowerment events for women 45+. Their signature event, Out Loud — held in Austin, L.A., and NYC (and will be adding San Francisco in 2022) — encourages women to be persistent in their dreams and goals by featuring accomplished women, networking, and connection (with a cocktail, of course!). Next Tribe also offers a variety of online events, including author interviews, weekly yoga, and even a TV pitch workshop with Marta Kauffman, the co-creator of Friends and Grace and Frankie

Tickets to Next Tribe’s Out Loud events range from $25 to $45 depending on location and when you buy. Most online events are free or donation-based. If you’re interested in travel, Next Tribe also offers trips to fun locales such as Paris, Normandy, and a hike on the Inca trail that starts at $1,599.

Finding the right events and communities is hard

Since we published this list, the following platforms have folded.

Revel for fitness over 40, writing groups, book clubs, girls’ nights out, and many more events

If you’re looking for a stimulating variety of events for women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond, then, say hello to Revel — a one-of-a-kind events and community platform where there’s something for every midlife woman.

Revel is one of the fastest-growing social platforms for middle-age women to enjoy community events. What sets Revel apart is their open events platform that allows any member to host an event on a subject they’re passionate about. This allows for a wide range of topics catered to your interests and support needs. At Revel, you can choose to talk about menopause, retirement, spirituality, cats, life after divorce, or talk dirty (Monday Night Sex Talk anyone?) — all in one place.

But there’s so much more than just talking — Revel members also hold workshops about thriving in relationships, the latest well-being modalities, and a variety of writers’ corners to unleash your creativity. Most events are online, but select in-person events are also available in a growing number of cities.

To join Revel, membership is free for the first 20,000 members. No pressure, but you might want to get on this now. Revel currently has more than 16,000 members at the time of writing. Most events are free with select premium ticketed events.
