Meet Angie Maguire, an RN and champion for health and wellness in midlife

I am 52 years old, a mother of three children (25, 23, and 18), and I have been married 29 years to a Brit. I’ve been a Registered Nurse for nearly 30 years. I have worked in various environments: hospital, clinic, school, and YMCA Camp, and love being a nurse. A year ago, I completed a Nurse Coaching Certification program and became a Nurse Coach- Board Certified in June. I am passionate about working 1:1 with women in midlife around all things health and wellness. I also work with nurses on occupational wellness and have created The Nurse Club, which hosts health and wellness activities for nurses. Through the Nurse Club, I collaborate with other women-owned businesses that donate their time and space and introduce/connect their businesses with nurses. It is a win-win!

I’m in the midst of:

A lot of new things! I am truly in the “next chapter.” I am in the midst of late perimenopause, building a nurse health and wellness coaching business, digging deep into menopause education, and starting to lead an “in-person” Menopause Ed series in October. I am adjusting to an empty nest and lucky enough to be in my parents’ lives, whom I am committed to looking after in the coming years. I have a full plate! That’s what I love and feel grateful for, and good health!

The best thing about my current age (52):

At 52, the best thing is good health—mentally and physically. After 20 years of running around like a headless chicken, I can stop, breathe, and celebrate my successes and, yes, failures and how I have grown from them. I have time—more time to stop and smell the roses.

The best thing I’ve done for myself in this stage of life:

The best thing I have done for myself is to have kept moving, literally and figuratively.

My current must-haves in life:

My husband of 29 years is my absolute rock and number one fan! Daily chats with one of our three children and in-person visits as much as possible. Love from our two golden retrievers. My running partners and workout communities. I love connecting with other health and wellness providers –especially nurses and nurse coaches and being part of our OPRF Chamber of Commerce.

Good food, wine, and Menopause Replacement Therapy! And, of course, girlfriends! Old and new, but all who allow for vulnerability and who can meet me where I am (it can be a challenge because I am on the go!), celebrate successes, and be honest about the disappointments.

What brought you to The Midst?

I follow Dr. Lauren Streicher on IG, and she posted about the F*ck Middle Age event and that she would be attending! She is one of my favorite docs that I follow, listen to, and learn from, and I thought if she is part of The Midst, I would bet it is quality! And would be a great community to be a part of and to attend events.

You are doing great work for women in midlife! I am thrilled to know about you. I am constantly impressed with the content that is published and accessible to the world of women in midlife…the Midst. I am honored to be asked to be a MidstHer.

What do you want most for/from the community of women you surround yourself with?

Love, Vulnerability, Learning and Creativity, Fun and Laughter, Physical Activities and New adventures.

My Grown-Ass Lady heroes:

My Mema, Frieda Marie Bulla Whittington, who lived until 101. She grew up in the Depression, was a preacher’s wife, and was the mother of my father. She always told me I was beautiful, had a lesson and story to share, and a mantra: “There is always a way through!” She exuded positivity, love for ALL, and passion for life!

Also, Florence Nightingale, Mother Teresa, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Michele Obama

What progress do you hope to see in society for future generations of women?

Increased knowledge, awareness, and acceptance of when we are most vulnerable in our health and wellness: Puberty, Postpartum, and Menopause. I would like all medical and nursing providers to receive more education on Menopause. I wish for more Menopause Care Specialists–this is a growing and exciting certification, and women in midlife are learning about it and how to access it. Also, for general practitioners to know more, take the time, and value the Menopause transition and how challenging it can be. We need support, education, and understanding of Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT). The more awareness, the less of a stigma.

What’s next for you:

Education, collaboration, and connection with more health providers and to continue to create and define the role of a Nurse Coach! Grow my 1:1 “in-person”  coaching business, educate and empower women in midlife, and give love to nurses! Also, these things

  • The Nurse Club 9.27.24
  • Menopause Ed Series starting 10.1.24
  • Always learning:  Jackie Piasta, NP Mentorship Program
  • F*ck Menopause Event 10.19.24
